?:abstract
  • The ongoing development and distribution of digital technologies lead us to expect an increasing importance of spatially mobile work and thus also of home office. Working in home office is often discussed as an instrument of spatial and time flexibility and in the context of a better work-life balance or the reduction of commuting time. So far, the option of working in home office is not equally available to or used by all employees. In addition, the understanding of home office, the way in which and how much work is done from home as well as the respective contractual agreements are very heterogeneous and at the same time, the scientific knowledge in this area is rather limited. To fill these knowledge gaps, this article uses data from the current German BIBB/BAuA Employment Survey 2018 to provide information on access to and use of home office, the extent to which working time worked at home is recognised and contractual regulations.
