?:abstract
  • The study of cultural consumption is a thriving interdisciplinary field across the social sciences and this paper examines it from sociological, cultural, and social-psychological perspectives. Our article takes a unique approach, delving into the theoretical underpinnings of the social presence of leisure time and cultural consumption. What sets our research apart is our focus on the Visegrádi countries, offering a fresh and intriguing perspective. We highlight the significance of Bourdieu's cultural capital, which is primarily manifested in leisure time and the associated consumption decisions. We examined the validity and comparability of the theories presented in the last few years at the country level in Visegrád countries and investigated whether the patterns of cultural consumption are comparable at all in light of available national statistics and research findings. Thus, a second analysis of statistical data is the best starting point for this exploratory phase. We attempt to analyze the data of a European database (EUSILC) on the use of leisure time and cultural consumption, focusing mainly on the Visegrád countries. As the result of our study, a second analysis of the EU-SILC database revealed exciting correlations between participation frequency, particular types of activity, and gender issues. (xsd:string)
