  • "The German school system is governed at the state level. Institutional variation in school quality can thus be exploited to estimate returns to schooling. This study confirms findings of previous analyses: there is a positive correlation of school quality and returns to schooling. Furthermore, I find a positive link between the returns to schooling and test score outcomes in PISA 2000. This study is the first to examine returns to education at the state level in Germany. It addresses the impacts of labor demand, regional amenities, and school quality on regionally varying wages and skill prizes. I confirm the findings of Black et al.
