  • This quantitatively oriented thesis analyses the changes with respect to beliefs, practices and attitudes to particular moral issues of Roman Catholics from the Visegrad countries during the last thirty years. For the interpretation of the empirical findings, the conceptual apparatus of the Karel Dobbelaere’s secularization theory is employed. The theory is also elaborated in order to point out its shortcomings. Empirical analysis – which is on the one hand explorative and on the other tests several hypotheses concerning the factors determining an extent of individual secularization – is based on the longitudinal European Values Study datasets. The main findings are as follows: (1) regardless of the change of Roman Catholic’s proportion on the whole of population in the studied countries, the overall degree of their normative integration has not changed significantly; (2) the variables like sex, age and urbanization can be considered as the fairly satisfactory predictors of the overall degree of normative integration, except for the educational level; (3) church attendances and degree of believe integration can be considered as the fairly satisfactory predictors of the of the degree of attitudes integration.
