This thesis examines how the human sex ratio and social values have coevolved, drawing on evolutionary biology and the framework of dual inheritance theory, with a brief overview of the field’s history and key evolutionary theories. We then explore the major biological, environmental, and cultural factors that shape the sex ratio, focusing on how these elements interact and are passed on within populations. Finally, we examine the impacts of skewed sex ratios and discuss various efforts to address them. It also addresses the consequences of skewed sex ratios and reviews attempt to regulate them. The research section uses demographic data from the World Population Prospects and sociological data from the World Values Survey to model the relationship between values and the sex ratio via Bayesian methods employing Monte Carlo simulations. Results suggest that, globally, as the sex ratio increases, secularization and emancipation decrease, with Western societies as a partial exception, even after controlling for median age and migration. Time-series analyses show both values and the sex ratio stabilizing around their means, with the sex ratio rather influencing the values. However, this requires further research.
