?:abstract
  • ChangHwan Kim aims to uncover how the reality of economic inequalityEconomic inequality in South Korea and people’s perception have uniquely changed in the twenty-first century. Like many other advanced economies, economic inequality in South Korea has increased in the twenty-first century. Unlike other countries, however, the economy has developed continuously. As a result, South Koreans who identified themselves as Upper or Upper-Middle Class increased steadily. Most people experienced upward intergenerational mobilityIntergenerational mobility and expressed heightened life satisfaction. Steady economic progress made South Koreans’ attitudes about social conflict and the government’s role regarding economic redistributionEconomic redistribution move in a more conservative direction. Those who supported the government’s active role in reducing income inequality decreased. Consistent with these attitudinal changes, South Koreans’ perception of social conflict has changed differently compared to other countries. The proportion of South Koreans who believe that class conflictClass conflict is a severe problem has reduced substantially. (xsd:string)
