?:abstract
  • The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic was responded to in (almost) all European countries with measures that strongly restricted individual freedom. For these measures to be effective, they had to be accepted by the citizens. But what does this acceptance depend on? Is it influenced by trust among citizens or by trust in the state? And what is the role of the stringency of the measures in this context? To answer these questions, the following article analyzes the data from Eurobarometer 93.1 using a multilevel analysis. Thus, on the one hand, it can be determined that different forms of trust influence the acceptance of the measures in different ways. On the other hand, a common effect of trust and the stringency of the measures can be identified. (xsd:string)
