?:abstract
  • On the basis that a correlation exists between subjective well-being, defined as satisfaction with life and a feeling of happiness, and variables such as sex, education, income, career, and value systems, three observations are made: (1) the level of subjective well-being varies little by stable characteristics, eg, sex; (2) it varies modestly along less stable variables, eg, income or married/unmarried;and (3) the most significant variations are noted in cases of recent change in individual's income level or marital status.
