?:abstract
  • Examines the relationship among religion, environmental & other values, and voluntary ecological activities among Catholics, using data from a 1990 values survey conducted in 14 European countries (total N = 19,558). The impact of both an individual Catholic identity and national Catholic context on values and propensity to appropriate ecological behavior is studied via path analysis, controlling for the indepedent effect of political values. Results indicate that Catholics do not manifest a greater internalized sense of stewardship compared to other groups, and religion does not significantly influence emergent forms of environmental politics.
