?:abstract
  • In this chapter the authors will discuss only briefly the determinants of the distribution of income as well as the determinants of consumer spending and the formation of capital, because of these determinants raises its own ranges of issues with its own variety of theoretical approaches. Ultimately our task is to recognize the "white areas" on the map of the "statistical infrastructure" rather than to explain in detail the sets of hypotheses in which the data are to be integrated. In the descriptive section they discuss the problem of defining income, problems of measurement and the availability of micro-data. The explanatory section presents a brief overview of the determinants of the personal distribution of market income, describes the merits and shortcomings of two simple statistical methods to gain insight into the structure of a distribution, and suggests refined simulation models.
