?:abstract
  • Given their track record in curbing corruption, much research has been devoted to the subject of how and why the Nordic countries were so relatively spared from corruption and related problems. Important and interesting research exists on how the Nordic countries managed to curb corruption. The purpose of this chapter is not to dispute the fact that the Nordic countries are clean, honest and low-corrupt – relative to other countries. The chapter surveys the literature not on why corruption is such a relatively small problem in the Nordic countries, but on the corruption that actually seems to take place – and how citizens within these countries perceive problems related to corruption and deviations from norms of impartiality. Conclusions point to the need to refine assessment tools in order to include the most recent and more hidden forms of corruption. (xsd:string)
