?:abstract
  • This chapter is devoted to expanding knowledge on the interaction between population and economy in the world and particularly in Africa. The main objective is to propose a normative model as well as tools and index appropriate to the development of effective multisectoral policies aimed at improving the well-being of populations. The first part of this chapter apprehends the state of the theoretical foundations of the demographic dividend by focusing on the key concepts that flow from it in synergy with sustainable development. The aim here is to define and explain the notions of demographic transition, theories of economic and social well-being and considering the close link between the demographic dividend, migration, and gender. On the other hand, the conceptual framework of the indices is highlighted. The second part of the chapter present the methodology of the normative model to apprehend the level of the demographic dividend at national and sub national level. The Demographic Dividend Monitoring Index (DDMI) created for this purpose is a tool for summarizing different dimensions of demographic dividend. It covers five dimensions: i-economic dependency, ii-quality of life Environment, iii- poverty transitions, iv- extended human development, v- networks and territories. (xsd:string)
