The rise of the internet and the accumulation of large databases have the potential to make information gathering a relatively simple process. With access to the internet, a user could potentially be able to sort through information accumulated by all the major survey tools used by sociologists today. The article explains the challenges to be overcome before the full universe of information can be readily used, but also gives insight into the potential of the internet databases. With careful oversight over replication and comparability and a more secure archiving system, researches could conceivably be given access to a much broader and relevant tool for their work.
