The supply of entrepeneurship is mitigated by capital and liquidity constraints. This is confirmed by the natural experiment of people receiving inheritances and gifts, which is found to increase a typical individual's probability of being self-employed. Most people in industrialized countries report prefering self-employment given the option and self-employed people report greater happiness and job satisfaction, while most otherwise employed people cite financial barriers as their reason for not being self-employed. Self-employed people also report finances as their greatest area of concern and where they have needed help the most. Most small businesses are financed with entrepeneurs' own money or with family money, rather than bank loans.
