?:abstract
  • Religiosity has declined in Ireland and, although less so, in Poland, particularly with regard to levels of church attendance and frequency of praying. While Ireland has witenessed a sharp decrease in confidence in the Church, both countries have seen a rise in secular values. While loss of confidence relates to the decline in religious practices, neither seem to have much impact on religious beliefs and self-description. Indeed, religious beliefs and self-description remain high, suggesting that religious beliefs have changed rather than declining with modernization, taking on a more individualized characteristics as Church rules are devalued.
