Anmerkungen zu CDROM Ausgabe Database last modified 2006 Zitat aus East View Hrsg 1996 USSR 1989 Population Census “The present publication is the CDROM version of the Results of the 1989 USSR Population Census As such it contains the entire contents of the printed microfiche edition of this publication which was first published in the latter half of 1992 The major change has been to transform all the data in the printed microfiche edition into a set of tables or files in database format which may be searched according to specified criteria via the interface which has been created In addition the user also has the opportunity to download entire files and search them according to his or her own criteria or methodology The CDROM edition presents the data in twelve subject areas corresponding to each of the twelve original volumes in the printed microfiche edition Each of the general subject areas is subdivided into a number of specific subjects which in turn correspond to a unique table in the printed microfiche edition Upon selecting a specific subject users may query the data according to all appropriate variables geographic unit sex urbanrural population type age range nationality etc Not all tables specific subjects provide the opportunity to search according to any variable For example the table concerned with resident population Table 13 with results presented at the raionlevel does not allow for queries pertaining to nationality or social group type since these variables were not part of the original structure of this table The data may also be approached from the point of view of geographic unit That is a user having in mind a specific former Soviet republic such as Estonskaia SSR or political administrative unit such as Moskovskaia oblast’ may first specify this geographic variable and then choose the menu of available general subjects and specific subjects for more detailed data queries Again not all general subjects and specific subjects will yield data for each geographic unit This is particularly the case for oblastlevel politicaladministrative unit geographic units for example no data on the general subject Number of Children Born may be presented for Dagestanskaia ASSR since all data are presented at the republic level The situation is even more circumscribed for raionlevel data for which there is but one single table which presents data only by sex and urbanrural status Finally the 1989 USSR Population Census data may also be approached from the point of view of nationality Accordingly a user may specify one of approximately 130 nationalities and receive a menu of general and specific subjects volumes and tables which contain data on the respective nationality Again not all general and specific subjects contain data crosstabbed for nationality In addition some nationalities will yield many more searchable tables than others For example Russian or the titular nationality of any republic unit will offer more data opportunities than Beludzh or Chukchi In addition to being able to query the numeric data of the Results of the 1989 USSR Population Census the CDROM edition also offers several other features First a geographic name converter has been installed which allows a user to determine the current 1996 equivalent of the name of a geographic unit as it appeared in 1989 The reverse is also possible ie determining the 1989 name of a geographic unit if the user knows its current 1996 name This feature which does not appear in the printed microfiche edition was deemed necessary due to the huge number of changes which have taken place since the breakup of the former Soviet Union into 15 independent states Second a large text sectionAbout the Censushas also been added This includes a preface to each general subject volume and several appendices all of which appeared originally in the printed microfiche edition and are now translated into English Two of the appendices concern the methodology of the 1989 USSR Population Census as well as the nature of questions asked to persons The third appendix consists of scanned reproductions of the original census questionnaires These items are not translated into English Finally a detailed explanation to each table specific subject has been added These explanations unique to the CDROM edition appear in the About the Census section and are linked to each volume general subject They offer detailed illustrations of the nature and limitations of each data set including all variables and crosstabs” 1989 USSR Population Census Sozialistische Sowjetrepublik ASSR wurde eine Gebietskoerperschaft der Sowjetunion bezeichnet Nach Artikel 82 der Verfassung der Union der Sozialistischen Sowjetrepubliken war eine Autonome Republik Bestandteil einer Sozialistischen Sowjetrepublik SSR Es existierten von 1956 bis 1991 20 Autonome Sowjetrepubliken die den namengebenden Nationalitaeten eine gewisse Autonomie verschaffen sollten In den meisten Faellen stellte die Titularethnie allerdings nur eine Bevoelkerungsminderheit dar
