A Facebook post has been shared thousands of times with a claim the Philippines has only 50 million registered voters and that it printed 11 million extra ballots in the May 2019 midterm elections. The claim is false; official data from the Philippines Commission on Elections shows there are more than 63 million registered voters. The false claim was published in this Facebook post on February 15, 2019. It has been shared more than 3,700 times. Below is a screenshot of the post: Screenshot of Facebook post The Tagalog-language post translates to English as: We have 50 million Registered voters. Then Jimenez had 61 million valid ballots printed. For whom are the 11 million? Jimenez refers to James Jimenez, the spokesman of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), the government agency responsible for running elections. Here is his LinkedIn profile. The Philippines held its midterm elections on May 13; here is an announcement on the Comelec website. This is an AFP report published on May 22, 2019, about the results. Another Facebook post with a similar claim was published here on February 15, 2019, and has been shared more than 700 times. The claim is false; official data from the Philippines' Commission on Elections shows there are more than 63 million registered voters. Official figures from Comelec published in 2019 here showed there were 61,843,771 registered voters in the Philippines for the elections.
