  • A photo of Queen Elizabeth II with then-President Donald Trump and Melania Trump has resurfaced following the queen’s death, but it misremembers a bit of political history. In the image now circulating online, a yellow circle has been drawn around the queen’s brooch, and a yellow arrow points to it from this text appearing below: My favorite story about Queen Elizabeth is that on the day of Trump’s visit to England, she wore a brooch gifted to her by President Barack Obama. The photo was taken on July 13, 2018, when Elizabeth hosted the Trumps at Windsor Castle during a visit to the United Kingdom. The brooch the queen was wearing in that photo, among others with the Trumps, is known as the palm leaf brooch. It was a favorite of the queen’s mother, the Telegraph reported , who wore it famously at the state funeral of her husband King George VI. The queen did wear a brooch gifted to her by former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama when the Trumps were in the United Kingdom, but she wasn’t wearing it when she met the Trumps. And she wasn’t wearing it in the picture being shared online. The Trumps arrived on July 12, when Elizabeth was otherwise engaged, the Telegraph said at the time. Her audience that day included the archbishop of Canterbury, and she was photographed wearing the small flower brooch that the Obamas found at a Washington antiques shop in 2011. We rate claims that the photo of Elizabeth with the Trumps shows her wearing a brooch given to her by the Obamas False. (en)
