  • A post shared on Facebook purports Duke of Sussex Prince Harry claimed bowling saved his life in his upcoming memoir. Verdict: False The Twitter user who first posted the excerpt confirmed in an email to Check Your Fact that it was satirical. Fact Check: Prince Harry’s new memoir, titled Spare, is set to be published in 15 languages, the Washington Post reports. The release was first planned for the end of 2022, but the release was pushed to Jan. 10, 2023 due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II, according to the outlet. The Facebook post shows the cover of Spare, along with its release date and promotional website, and an alleged excerpt from Prince Harry’s new book. The alleged excerpt claims that Prince Harry discovered bowling while wandering the streets of L.A. suicidal after leaving the royal family. One day, I was wandering the streets of LA, the alleged passage reads. A 40oz in one hand and a revolver in the other, ready to end it all, when I saw a building with a bright neon sign that said Hollywood Star Lanes. The purported excerpt is satirical. It first appeared in a tweet by Carlos Greaves, who identifies himself as someone who writes satire in the pinned tweet on his profile. Follow me for more silly stuff like this . . ., he responded to the tweet. The tweet was written purely as satire, Greaves confirmed in an email to Check Your Fact. I did not intend for the tweet to be misleading or to be interpreted as an actual leak from the book. There is no evidence that Prince Harry wrote this. The press release for Prince Harry’s book shown on publisher Penguin Random House’s website does not reference any such passage.
