  • A Facebook post claims that South Africa-headquartered engineering and construction group Murray & Roberts is hiring. The post says that the company is hiring workers with grade 10, the third-last year of South African high school, and claims salaries will be between R7,000 and R14,000 per month. Applicants are also asked to further share the information on social media: The more you share this post in groups, the more chances of being hired. If you can't apply online just click 'share', we will inbox you more details. But is this an authentic job advert? We checked. Company only recruits through own website According to Eduard Jardim, spokesperson for Murray & Roberts, the company does not post its job adverts on Facebook and would not promise applicants they will be sent fax numbers after commenting on a post. All our recruitment is done through our online site . We do not advertise on Facebook. We certainly do not use fax numbers and we don’t ‘inbox’ people more details, Jardim told Africa Check. We are aware of companies using our brand in fake employment job ads, where prospective job seekers are encouraged to pay an admin fee in exchange for formalising the interview – we do not do that, ever! he said. Jardim also warned that Murray & Roberts never recruits door-to-door or through business networking platform LinkedIn. The post on Facebook is therefore misleading. – Dancan Bwire (en)
