  • Update 30 July 2020: Since this report was published on 28 July, Life job's creator has deleted at least 26 posts on the page. But the scam continues. The Facebook page Life job’s creator posts dozens of messages offering jobs and training at private companies and government departments in South Africa – the post office , army , department of health and more. Some posts say people with a grade 10 or grade 12 qualification can apply for jobs with salaries of R8,000 to R10,000 a month. The page also advertises food parcels for unemployed people and temporary passports . How to spot a scam But all the offers on the page have one thing in common: they link to dodgy websites. Many of the links posted go to a page on the manylink link aggregation website. From there they link to the website careersbright.co.za . The site is full of pop-up ads that the website owner likely uses to make money from views and clicks. The dodgy websites don't give people any real way to apply for jobs, training, food parcels or anything else offered on the page. The page also sometimes asks people to comment on the post with the province they live in. This is simply engagement bait . The whole thing is a scam. A similar tactic is used by other Facebook pages – posting fake job ads or other offers to lure people to websites. When you see something advertised on Facebook, make sure that any link provided takes you to an official employment or company website.
