  • A Facebook page posted an advert on 4 March 2020 claiming that Quickmart , a supermarket chain in Kenya, has vacancies across the country. It links to a Google Form with details of the application process, which also lists the positions supposedly vacant. These include cashiers, accountants, secretaries, customer care receptionists and cleaners. Successful applicants are also promised at least KSh22,000 as starting salaries. ‘Registration fee’ red flag Just as with many other fake job adverts, applicants are asked to part with KSh320 for registration, by paying through a mobile number. This is a feature of most of the fake job ads Africa Check has debunked . Most companies we have consulted said they did not charge any fee during any part of their recruitment processes. ‘Fake Quickmart page’ Quickmart has called the advert fake on its official Facebook page . The company has also cautioned customers that the page where the ad was posted was also fake. Please note that there is a fake Quickmart page scamming job applicants. We wish to inform you that we are currently not advertising any job opportunities or charging applicants for any that we may provide in future, Quickmart warned . – Dancan Bwire (en)
