  • A Facebook user shared an image that he claimed showed residents of Gatundu south constituency in Kiambu county demanding arrest of their member of parliament over corruption allegations. In the image , protestors in red can be seen carrying a banner with images of Moses Kuria , their MP. The banner bears a text: THE FACE OF CORRUPTION, with the hashtag: #KOMESHAUFISADI,a Kiswahili word for stop corruption. He captioned it: Gatundu people take to the streets as they demand Kuria to be arrested over corruption at Constituency Development Fund (CDF). These funds are used to support constituency-level development projects. But did the image show the residents protesting over their MP? We checked. Reverse image search A reverse image search shows a number of the articles done with the image. One dated 12 July 2019 features it in an article done on corruption. But it does not feature Kuria as in the claim but a combined image of president Uhuru Kenyatta and deputy president William Ruto. It has been credited to Reuters. Africa Check searched the caption on google and found the image on Reuters website . The image was taken on 30 April 2019 by Baz Ratner for Reuters with a caption : Anti corruption protesters holding a banner march during a protest in Nairobi, Kenya, April 30, 2019. The story was also covered by local media. Different videos and photos of the demonstration were posted on the internet– Dancan Bwire (en)
