  • Two photos have been shared more than one hundred times in multiple Facebook posts which claim they show South Korean President Moon Jae-in and US President Donald Trump holding ‘light sticks’ for Korean pop group EXO. The claim is false; the images have been doctored from original photos in which the two presidents were not holding any objects. The photos were shared in this Facebook post on June 30, 2019. Below is a screenshot of the misleading post: Screenshot of Facebook post The caption states: Korea’s President Holding EXO lightstick Version 2 and US President holding EXO lightstick Version 3. The photos purport to show Moon and Trump holding a ‘light stick’ for EXO , a Korean boyband. ‘Light sticks’ have been used by K-pop fans at concerts to show their support for individual Korean pop groups. EXO released the second version of its lightstick in 2016 while the third version was released this year. The same photos were published, here , here and here on Facebook with a similar claim. The claim is false; the images have been doctored from original photos in which the two presidents were not holding any objects. A reverse image search on Google for the photo of Moon found this photo taken by photo news agency Getty Images on May 9, 2017. The video was uploaded by US news organisation NBC News on January 20, 2017. The screenshot in the misleading post has been doctored from the frame at the 12 seconds mark in the video.
