  • Mobile phone users in Kenya are receiving a text message warning that their phone numbers will be shut down. The text claims to be from the Communication Authority of Kenya , formerly known as the Communications Commission of Kenya, or CCK. It has also been shared on Facebook and reads: Dear subscriber, you have exceeded the maximum number of lines allowed per person, we will be able to close your lines, contact CCK on 0101366422 for assistance. Did the communications authority send out the text? We checked. It’s a scam: ignore and report The communications authority has cautioned the public against the text messages through their official Twitter account , calling it a scam. The authority said: IGNORE such SCAMMERS & REPORT to CA through: [email protected] OR 0703042000. Kenyans are cautioned to disregard the text message and not share their personal information over unknown phone numbers. – Grace Gichuhi (en)
