  • Don’t be conned by the offer of free Samsung products on the Facebook page Samsung Giveaway . It’s a scam, and here’s why. One post on the page claims the company is giving Samsung products to students during the Covid-19 crisis. THIS IS A GIVEAWAY FOR EVERYONE ESPECIALLY OUR STUDENTS FOR THE SAKE OF THIS PANDEMIC WHO IS FINDING IT HARD CURRENTLY, it reads, in all caps. APPLY USING THE SEND MESSAGE BUTTON BELOW TO CHAT US DIRECTLY. The post has been shared on Facebook in Mali and Nigeria, and viewed by more than 38 million users. The page’s two other posts simply say: Watch and subscribe to the channel and send us your address and account number. They link to an unrelated YouTube video on the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra. Don’t fall for it. The people running the page are trying to steal your personal information, including your bank details. Learn how to spot scams The page uses the Samsung logo as a profile picture, but it’s not affiliated with the company in any way. The page transparency section shows it was created less than two weeks ago, on 27 July 2020. It has a small following and doesn’t share any credible contact details. Samsung’s real Facebook page was created more than 10 years ago, on 20 July 2010. It shares genuine contact information such as an email and website address. The page has been verified with a blue tick. The giveaways advertised by the Samsung Giveaway page do not appear on Samsung’s official website .
