  • A video has circulated online with thousands of views on Twitter alongside a claim it shows Typhoon In-Fa lashing eastern China's Zhoushan city in July 2021. The claim is false: the video has circulated online since at least September 2018 and actually shows a street in Hong Kong. The video was shared in this Twitter post published on July 25, 2021. It has been viewed more than 7,000 times since. The post's simplified Chinese-language caption translates as: Around 12:30 on July 25, Typhoon 'In-Fa' passed Zhoushan, Zhejiang, causing a mess everywhere! Zhoushan is a city in eastern China's Zhejiang province. The video alongside similar claims was also published here and here on Twitter. The claim, however, is false. The video predates Typhoon In-Fa and actually shows a street in Hong Kong. A reverse image search on Google for a screenshot of the video found this September 17, 2018 article published in Hong Kong-based social media site 9GAG. The article’s headline states: Super Typhoon Mangkhut Smashed Hong Kong And The Scenes Were Apocalyptic. The same four-second video is embedded in the article. The video's simplified Chinese title translates to English as: Typhoon Mangkhut, a real scene in Tsim Sha Tsui. Tsim Sha Tsui is a shopping area in Kowloon, Hong Kong. AFP found the location where the video was filmed on Google Street View here .
