With Nigerian schools and universities closed to help slow the spread of Covid-19, a Facebook user has asked whether the country’s Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB) is sending profile codes and PIN numbers to exam candidates. Who has received profile code and pin from Jamb? I heard Jamb is sending profile code and pin to people, the post reads . The exams board , an education ministry agency, conducts matriculation examinations for candidates seeking admission to universities, polytechnics and colleges of education. About a million people write the exams each year. Candidates must phone for appointment This is false, Fabian Benjamin, head of media at JAMB, told Africa Check. As a result of the Covid-19 outbreak in the country, we have decided to stop attending to a large number of candidates at once, at our office. What we then did was to create a platform which will enable candidates to book appointments prior to their arrival at our office, he said. The process involves candidates dialling this code *55019#, after which an appointment date will be displayed. We have been working on updating our message log so that the process can be smooth. We carried out a test run on the platform which involved us making use of phone numbers of some candidates. We are not giving out profile code and pins to people. – Motunrayo Joel
