  • With four months to Nigeria’s general elections, political campaigning is reaching a fever pitch – and so is misinformation. One case involves a photo of Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party , shaking hands with US President Donald Trump. Atiku Abubaka just arrived united States of America dis night, wrote the user who shared the picture on Facebook . Shame on all of u dat said Atiku can not visit USA. It’s rumoured that Abubakar, who was vice president from 1999 to 2007, can’t visit the US for fear of being charged with money laundering. But Punch newspaper reported that the United States department of justice told them public court records... do not show cases filed against a defendant named Atiku Abubakar. Photo is of Trump and Buhari Is the photo real? No. A Google reverse image search shows the picture was altered.
