  • The Facebook page Tuskys Supermarket Jobs is advertising jobs at the Kenyan supermarket chain. Africa Check has debunked many fake Tuskys job ads posted on Facebook. And the posts on this page use a very similar format. But could these ads be genuine? Signs of scam recruitment The posts on the page claim there is urgent mass recruitment at the supermarket chain and link to a Google form where applicants are encouraged to apply for 1378 employees, internship positions. Like in other bogus job ads, the requirements are low. Applicants need to be 18 years or older, speak Kiswahili, English and local language, disciplined and ready to work for seven hours or more. But on the second page of the application form prospective candidates are asked to pay an application fee of KSh350 via M-Pesa mobile money transfer. This is a clear warning sign the process is an attempt to trick job seekers. Tuskys recruits through website and trusted job sites The Facebook page doesn’t include any links to either the verified Facebook page for the supermarket chain or its official website . And on its verified Facebook page Tuskys has repeatedly made clear it doesn’t charge job applicants and explained how it advertises vacancies. On 15 May 2020 the group posted : Do not be conned!! The google docs forms doing rounds online are not from Tuskys. We do not charge any fee in exchange for employment opportunities. Our vacancies are advertised through myjobsinkenya.com , brightermonday.co.ke and our website https://careers.tuskys.com/careers . – Vincent Ng’ethe (en)
