Latsa nan don karanta wannan rohoton da hausa. Click here to read this report in Hausa. Is Nigeria’s federal government planning to ban the evil of Instagram because it makes young people lazy ? That’s the claim in screenshot of what appears to be a Channels TV broadcast circulating on social media in early October 2019. FG plans to ban Instagram in Nigeria: PMB, the text on the screen reads, below a Channels TV logo. President Muhammadu Buhari says the Federal Government is currently under deliberation to ban the popular social media app, Instagram in Nigeria. The president said this today during his meeting with the ministerial council at Abuja. He says that Instagram has fueled laziness amongst youths and this evil must stop. The graphic has been flagged as possibly false by Facebook’s fact-checking system. Did Buhari say his government was thinking of banning Instagram ? And did Nigeria’s Channels TV report the announcement? We checked. ‘Fake news’ – Buhari aide Neither the news nor the screenshot appear in the Channels TV official Twitter account . The account’s most recent mention of Instagram was a 9 July tweet about cyberbullying. The proposed ban hasn’t been mentioned on any of the presidency’s communication channels or reported by any credible news organisations. Tolu Ogunlesi, Buhari’s special assistant, said on his verified Twitter account that the claim was false. He tweeted : Anyways, this is fake news. You can tell where it came from by watching the people sharing it most enthusiastically on social media. No such meeting or ‘deliberation’ happened. There is no such thing as ‘Ministerial Council’, too. It’s called Fed Exec Council (FEC). The screenshot has been manipulated, and the Instagram ban is a hoax. – Motunrayo Joe Babu wata hujja da ta tabbatar cewa gwamnatin tarayya zata haramta amfani da shafin sada zumunta na Instagram Wani hoto da ake dauka don nuna abun da ke bayyane a fuskar waya, na nuni da gida talabijin na channels na yada wani rahoto cewar gwamnatin tarayyar Najeriya zata haramta amfani da shafin sada zumunta na Instagram.
