A post shared on Facebook claims Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez told Republicans and supporters of President Donald Trump, You can either accept defeat and have unity with us Or you can have war. Verdict: False There is no evidence that Ocasio-Cortez made such a statement. Fact Check: Ocasio-Cortez, who was re-elected as the representative for New York’s 14th Congressional District in November, has previously voiced her support of President-elect Joe Biden, according to Bloomberg . The Associated Press called the 2020 presidential election for the former vice president on Nov. 7. However, there is no record of Ocasio-Cortez making such a remark. Had she made a remark threatening war against Republicans, media outlets would have almost assuredly reported on it, yet none appear to have done so. The comment likewise does not appear on her websites nor in any of her social media posts . Check Your Fact also searched Propublica’s archive of politicians’ deleted tweets, but found no instances of the quote. Other iterations of the claim show a screen grab of a Nov. 25 post on the internet forum 4chan sharing the comment along with a photo of Ocasio-Cortez. While 4chan shows that the post was posted by Anonymous, some social media users have shared the post on Facebook, seemingly believing that it showed a genuine statement from the congresswoman.
