A screenshot of what appears to be a tweet by Polly Namaye, Uganda’s deputy police spokesperson, has been shared on Facebook. In the tweet she encourages fellow police officers to disobey unlawful orders from seniors. The tweet reads in part: Each one of us that has a duty to disobey unlawful orders because each one will answer individually. It includes a photo of Namaye. The screenshot was shared on 27 December 2020. We found the original tweet published on the same day, by a Twitter account with the handle @bnamaye1. Did the police spokesperson really advise Ugandan police officers to disobey unlawful orders? We checked. Imposter Twitter account Africa Check has previously debunked posts on the @bnamaye1 Twitter account. It is not Namaye’s official account , which has the handle @PollyNamaye, but an impostor account using her name. The Uganda Police Force retweeted a post from Namaye’s real account on 29 December, in which she said : This is the same fake account at it again. Please ignore its contents and falsehood.
