  • A Facebook page titled Dangote Cement PLC claims the multinational Nigeria-based cement manufacturer is selling its products at discounted prices. The page's 16 February 2020 post says the Dangote Cement Factory is selling cement at a promotional factory price of N1,300 per 50 kilogram bag. The post adds the company will ship to any part of the country ... and deliver to your doorstep. The post includes the phone number of a Dangote sale manager, Samuel Olarenwaju. Is it true that this large company is advertising a sale on Facebook? We investigated. Hints ad fake The Facebook page which posted this ad raises suspicions. The page was created on 16 February, the same day as the post, and there are no other posts on the page. Its handle is @dangotecementplcpromosales and, suspiciously, the website listed in the About section is a dead link. The official Dangote Facebook page has the handle @dangotegroup and was created on 9 August 2010. It links to the company’s official website . This all indicates that the page advertising a cement special is fake. Africa Check phoned the number listed in the post for Samuel Olarenwaju. The man who answered said the claim was not false and that he was the chief sales executive at Dangote Cement. He said there have been adverts for the special running on TV and radio stations and in newspapers. No trace of promo on Dangote official website Next we went back to Dangote’s Facebook page . There are no posts on it advertising any sales or promotions. Finally, there is no trace of a Samuel Olarenwaju or the role chief sales executive on the Dangote Cement website . It lists Adeyemi Fajobi as the group chief sales and marketing officer. Googling the phrase Samuel Olarenwaju chief sales executive Dangote also yields no results. The post is fake. – Jennifer Ojugbeli (en)
