  • A video has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times in Twitter, Weibo and Facebook posts, alongside a claim it shows fans of Chinese-Canadian pop star Kris Wu singing outside a police station in Beijing where he was detained in 2021. The claim is false: the video has circulated since 2019 in social media posts about Wu attending a public event, and was filmed in Guangzhou city -- not in Beijing. Fans gathered outside the police station where Wu was detained in Chaoyang district, reads the simplified Chinese-language caption to this video shared on Twitter on August 7, 2021. The video -- which shows a group singing a Chinese song called Time Boils the Rain while holding banners with the Chinese character Fan -- has been viewed over 200,000 times since. It circulated online after police in Beijing's Chaoyang district said pop star Kris Wu, also known as Wu Yifan, had been detained on suspicion of rape on July 31, 2021, as AFP reported here .
