  • Respected Hollywood actor Robin Williams died by suicide in 2014. His wife, Susan Williams, told the UK’s Guardian newspaper that her husband was not depressed, but had chosen to end his life because he was suffering from Lewy body dementia , a debilitating brain disease. But a meme posted on Facebook in South Africa suggests otherwise. It shows a photo of Williams, and attributes this quote to him: I used to think that the worst thing in life was to end up alone. It’s not. The worst thing in life is to end up with people who make you feel alone. Quote from 2009 movie The words aren’t the actor’s. They were written by Bobcat Goldthwait in his screenplay for The World’s Greatest Dad , a 2009 movie in which Williams played the main role. In the movie, a black comedy, Williams’s character Lance covers up his son’s humiliating death with a phoney suicide note. The quote can be found toward the end of the script , just above the lyrics of the song Under Pressure by Queen , featuring David Bowie . The meme differs slightly from the script, which reads: I used to think the worst thing in life was to end up all alone. It's not. The worst thing in life is ending up with people who make you feel all alone. The scene where Williams’s character, Lance, says the words can be viewed in this YouTube video . – Taryn Willows (en)
