  • A Facebook post from 15 February 2019, the eve of Nigeria’s now postponed presidential election, claims Nana Akufo-Addo, the president of Ghana, has appealed to Nigerians to re-elect President Muhammadu Buhari. The post had been shared 1,163 times by 20 February 2019. It claimed Akufo-Addo told journalists in Ghana that Buhari still remains the best option for Nigeria... It will be in the interest of Nigeria and other Africa countries especially West Africa if Buhari wins his re-election bid. The post links to a My State News article headlined Buhari remains the best option for Nigeria – Ghanaian President. But no information on My State News could be found on website evaluator Website Outlook , or on Icann’s WhoIs Lookup . This raises doubts about the site’s credibility. No news reports on endorsement Africa Check found no evidence that Akufo-Addo spoke to journalists about Nigeria’s presidential election or publicly endorsed Buhari for a second term. A search of online Ghanaian newspapers yielded no such report. A Google reverse image search shows the photo in the post is at least two years old. The BBC published it in a January 2017 report on Akufo-Addo’s inauguration as president. – Africa Check (20/02/19) (en)
