  • A video shared on Facebook claims Democratic New York Rep. Jerry Nadler is being impeached after an argument with Republican Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz. Verdict: False The video’s caption is baseless. There is no evidence that Nadler is facing impeachment. Fact Check: An investigation into Gaetz regarding allegations of sex trafficking appears to have stalled due to credibility issues surrounding key witnesses, according to NBC News . The investigation, which commenced in December 2020, centered around whether the lawmaker sex-trafficked a 17-year-old female, the outlet reported. The Facebook video, viewed over 7,600 times, claims Nadler is being impeached for unspecified reasons. ‘Nadler To Be IMPEAČHĘD Matt Gaetz TEARS up Schiff, Nadler and Entire Democrat With Epic FACTS’ the video’s caption reads. (RELATED: Did Kevin McCarthy Say That Nancy Pelosi ‘Should Be Jailed And Prosecuted’) The post’s caption is inaccurate. Republican Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz did not mention any such interaction on his verified Twitter account. Nadler also did not mention any impeachment proceedings on his Twitter account. Gaetz and Nadler have likewise not issued any press releases related to this allegation. The video is also unrelated to the caption. The first clip stems from a House Judiciary committee Hearing in March of 2022 when Gaetz grilled FBI Cyber Chief Bryan Vorndran on the whereabouts of Hunter Biden’s laptop. The second video is from an April 2022 House Judiciary Committee hearing, in which Rep. Jim Jordan aired his discontent with the media’s coverage of the Hunter Biden laptop story. At no point did any member of the House of Representative discuss impeachment proceedings regarding Nadler. Check Your Fact has contacted both Gaetz’s and Nadler’s offices and will update this piece accordingly if a response is received. This is not the first time Nadler and Gaetz have been the subject of false claims. Check Your Facts recently debunked a claim that Gaetz revealed evidence that implicated Nadler. (en)
