  • A video has been viewed thousands of times on Facebook alongside a claim that it shows the aftermath of floods that hit a residential area on the outskirts of Jakarta in February 2021. The claim is misleading; the scenes in the footage match with videos showing the aftermath of floods in Bekasi, near Jakarta, in January 2020. The two-minute, 25-second video was being posted on February 20, 2021 here on Facebook. It has since been viewed more than 600 times. Translated from Indonesian to English, the post reads in part: The condition after the floods this morning, February 20, 2021. Screenshot of misleading post, taken on February 22, 2021 Pondok Gede Permai residential complex is located in Bekasi, a city on the outskirts of Jakarta. The residential complex was among many areas in Bekasi, in West Java province, that were flooded on February 19 and 20, 2021, local media Kompas.com reported here . The same footage, which has been watched more than 15,000 times, was also shared alongside a similar claim in other Facebook posts, such as here , here , here and here . The claim is misleading. A reverse image search on Google followed by subsequent keyword searches found that the scenes in the footage in the misleading post correspond with videos published by local media outlets in January 2020. At the 0:03 mark, the misleading footage shows cars piled up after being washed away by floods, matching the 0:49 mark of this video by Warta Kota. The Warta Kota video, posted on its YouTube channel on January 2, 2020, is titled: HORRIBLE, Dozens of Cars Damaged, Flipped Over After Floods at Pondok Gede Permai Residential Complex. At another spot, they were scattered away. There were some that were turned upside down.
