  • What seems to be a public notice posted on the Bungoma Connected Facebook group page claims a Kenyan MP has been pretending to be the secretary general of a smaller political party so he can conduct business on its behalf. It’s headed Ford-Kenya – the Forum for the Restoration of Democracy – and shows a photo of a man identified as Chris Wamalwa. We want to inform the general public that the person in the above photo has never been the Secretary-General of Ford-Kenya, the notice reads . He is therefore not allowed to transact any business on behalf of Ford-Kenya in that capacity. We shall not be held liable for his actions. Wamalwa is the member of parliament for Kiminini constituency . The Bungoma Connected Facebook group has more than 46,000 members. Ford-Kenya has had internal disagreements in 2020, with opposing groups disputing its leadership. Africa Check previously debunked a fake gazette notice that claimed Ford-Kenya was replacing secretary general Eseli Simiyu with Wamalwa. Is this new notice more accurate? We checked. ‘Fake’ notice Africa Check spoke to Ford-Kenya deputy executive director, Reuben Ameli Chilaka. He said: The public notice is fake, though it is true Chris Wamalwa has never been the secretary general for Ford-Kenya. Simiyu, also a member of parliament, confirmed to Africa Check that he, not Wamalwa, is the secretary general of the party. – Grace Gichuhi (en)
