  • A post on Facebook claims that fast-food chain restaurant McDonald’s is recruiting in South Africa. According to the post , the restaurant is looking to employ young people who will earn a salary of between R4,000 and R8,000 per month. Among the requirements for full-time positions are that applicants must have grades 10, 11 or 12, the last three years of high school in South Africa. Applicants are also asked to share the information to five other groups on Facebook in order to be contacted for further directions. The post also lists links for applicants to apply for the jobs, which lead to a webpage which links to another website. This then links to the careers page of the McDonald’s website. But there are no open vacancies listed on the McDonald’s website, just an application form. Africa Check contacted the customer care department at McDonald’s to check whether the advert was genuine. McDonald’s can confirm that communication via Facebook advising customers of job vacancies at McDonald’s is a hoax, Ntombizanele Maseko told Africa Check. – Dancan Bwire (en)
