  • A chicken nugget from a McDonald's BTS-themed meal sold on the online auction site eBay for just a few dollars shy of $100,000, and although the concept seemed too outlandish to be true, we can confirm. The chicken nugget sold at the stratospheric price after an intense bidding war that started on May 28, 2021, when it was placed by eBay by a seller that appears to be located in Utah. It ended June 4, is viewable on the eBay platform, showing that the nugget sold for $99,997, just $3 shy of $100,000. As the technology news site The Verge reported, two days after it was first listed, somebody placed an (at the time) astonishingly high $14,869.69 first bid on the nugget, and things just escalated from there. You can scroll through the bidding history here. The Verge also observed that a factor driving up the price may have been that the nugget was from a McDonald's BTS-themed meal, named after the mega-popular K-pop band. Among Us is a multi-player, social deduction video game developed in 2018 by InneSsloth. CNET describes the game like this: It's true that the chicken nugget in question does in fact look like an Among Us crew member. Here is a screenshot of the nugget from eBay: And here is an image of crew members in the game, taken from Wikipedia: We don't know yet know the identity of the buyer, however, the Among Us Twitter account posted this tribute to the winner: We sent an email to InnerSloth asking if they have any further information about the buyer and seller of the chicken nugget, and will update if we get a response.
