  • A message posted on the Kenyan Facebook group page Team Ruto , which has more than 200,000 members, claims that Gideon Moi , the senator of Baringo county, was ranked the worst performer in a recent survey of county governments. Baringo Senator Gideon Moi has been ranked number 47 out of 47 senators, the message begins . Data from CrowdTangle , Facebook’s insights tool, shows that the claim has been made in similar posts shared on pages with thousands of followers. The CountyTrak Kenya Index was compiled by Infotrak Research and Consulting . The company describes it as an objective citizens' scorecard on the performance of their county governments against a set of performance indicators. The index comes out of a survey conducted from October 2019 to January 2020 using computer assisted telephone interviews, InfoTrak says. It includes a Happiness Index, Optimism Index and Condition of Life Index for each of Kenya’s 47 counties, as well as a Governor Index and Senator Index. But does it rank Baringo county’s Moi as the worst performing senator? Rated at 34 in 2020 and 30 in 2015 The 2020 Senator Index , which tracks county senators’ approval rating, ranks Moi at 34 – not 47 – with an approval rating of 43.8%. The 47th position is taken by Tana River senator Wario Golich Juma, with a rating of 36.4%. Moi was ranked at 30 in the 2015 index , with an approval rating of 50%. – Grace Gichuhi (en)
