The Facebook page Uganda Redcross offers jobs at the Uganda Red Cross Society , claiming the humanitarian organisation is conducting mass recruitment . But it’s a scam. Like many Facebook-based scams Africa Check has exposed before, it links to a Google Form where job seekers can supposedly apply. Various positions are advertised, for doctors, drivers, accountants, receptionists and more. In the comments, many job seekers have expressed interest . ‘Public vigilance and caution’ The page was created on 27 March 2019 and has 722 followers. The Uganda Red Cross Society’s verified Facebook page was created on 20 October 2010. It has more than 30,000 followers. And the society has issued a press statement warning of viral job scams circulating on social media. It has come to our attention that there are fraudulent job postings on several social media platforms for a mass recruitment process at the Uganda Red Cross Society, the statement reads. There is no party contracted to act for and on behalf of Uganda Red Cross to recruit staff, volunteers or members. For open vacancies, Uganda Red Cross uses the official website redcrossug.org/join-us/jobs . This therefore comes to call for public vigilance and caution. Our guide to Facebook scams and how to spot them explains how you can avoid being duped by fraudulent pages like this. – Dancan Bwire
