  • After federal agents searched former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, tweeted his displeasure, calling the move corrupt & an abuse of power. But a recent video being described on Facebook as showing Cruz reprimanding FBI director Christopher Wray is wrong. ‘I’ve the evidence here’ Ted Cruz ERUPTS as FBI director tries to defend Biden over Mar-a-Lago raid, the Aug. 16 post says. This post was flagged as part of Facebook’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Facebook .) The 13-minute video has been viewed more than 13,000 times, and some users may have noticed that Cruz does not appear berating Wray. Rather, there are two clips featuring the junior senator from Texas. The first clip is from November 2020 and in it Cruz questions former interim FBI director Andrew McCabe about the agency’s investigation into former U.S. Army Gen. Michael Flynn , who briefly was Trump’s national security adviser. The second clip is from September 2021, when Cruz criticized President Joe Biden’s immigration policies. In neither clip does Cruz talk about Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate or the search that happened there. Cruz recently faced off with Wray, but that was before agents executed the search warrant at Mar-a-Lago on Aug. 8 — and it had nothing to do with that case. On Aug. 4, Wray appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee and Cruz questioned him about the description of some images as extremist symbols. We rate this post False. (en)
