  • An advert offering 4,257 graduate trainee jobs at the Kenya Revenue Authority has been making the rounds on social media. The ad , posted on a Kenyan Facebook group with over 265,000 members, claims the positions will help prepare future KRA staff to take on challenging responsibilities. Our graduate trainees are well paid throughout the training period and are immediately absorbed as staff members after the training, it reads. The training will take place in every county in Kenya and all trainees shall be provided with accommodation and transport services. The ad says it wants fresh graduates who have graduated in the last two years or are in their last years of study. It provides two suspicious email addresses for applications. One is a Gmail account, the other on an @kra. co .ke domain. The real KRA domain is www.kra.go.ke . ‘Ignore this fake advert’ The KRA has dismissed the advert as fake, in a warning issued on their official Facebook account . Please ignore this fake advert. Visit https://www.kra.go.ke for available job vacancies, they posted . The tax authority has made its staff shortage and hiring plans public, in its current corporate plan . But the total number of staff to be hired in the financial years 2018/19 to 2020/21 is 3,900 , not 4,257. Not first time the authority has been targeted It is not the first time that the tax agency has been targeted by fraudsters. On 14 March 2019, Africa Check debunked another scam ad offering fake jobs at KRA. The ad required applicants to pay KSh350 if they were to stand any chance of consideration in more than 400 positions advertised. But KRA at the time cautioned job seekers against falling for the ad, saying that they didn’t require applicants to pay a fee during recruitment and that all their genuine job adverts could be found in their website www.kra.go.ke or in national newspapers. – Dancan Bwire (03/06/2019) (en)
