  • An advert on the Facebook page Local Classifieds for jobs at Airports Company South Africa (Acsa) is fake. The ad, posted on 6 July 2019, claims the company is looking for general airport staff and attendants. It says the closing date is not specific and that candidates should have at least Grade 12 education, be able to read and write and be prepared to work under pressure. But it then suspiciously asks applicants to comment Help on the Facebook post, promising to contact them via inbox within 50 minutes after commenting. In addition, work hopefuls must share the advert to at least 10 groups, with the page noting that it monitors if this done on its database. Africa Check recently debunked an advert with similar conditions targeting Coca-Cola South Africa. ‘The advertisement is fake’ The advert doesn’t appear on the company’s career portal . The link in the post leads to a blog advertising a general assistant trolleys job at Port Elizabeth Airport. Clicking on the link does take one to Acsa’s official website , but of the 12 openings seen on 16 July 2019, only one was in trolleys, for a senior supervisor. Africa Check showed the advert to Acsa and asked if it was real. According to FTI Consulting, Acsa’s communications provider, the ad is fake. We have followed the bitly link from the Facebook post. The advertisement one arrives at is fake, said Trevor Jones, a senior director at FTI Consulting. Where to find real jobs at Acsa The only place to search for legitimate Airports Company South Africa job advertisements is www.airports.co.za/business/careers/career-portal , Jones told Africa Check. At this career portal, there is currently one general assistant trolleys position open, but that is for King Shaka International Airport, not Port Elizabeth as shown in the fake advert. – Dancan Bwire (en)
