  • A video has been viewed tens of thousands of times in multiple posts on Facebook and Twitter which claim it shows a Pakistani opposition leader incorrectly giving the price of certain groceries in Pakistan. The posts claim the video is evidence that the politician is unfit to become the leader of Pakistan. The claim is false; the video has been doctored and there is no record of the politician making such a statement. The 19-second video was published in this Facebook post on October 18, 2020. It has been viewed 87,000 times and shared 5,700 times. It shows Bilawal Bhutto Zardari , chair of the Pakistan Peoples Party , discussing inflation in the country under the current government. He can be heard saying: The changes are that eggs [cost] 200 rupees per kilo, potatoes 100 rupees per dozen, tomatoes 200 rupees per dozen, onions... The video was also shared here , here , here and here on Facebook and here , here and here on Twitter alongside a similar claim. The claim is false; the video has been doctored. Videos of Zardari’s October 16, 2020 speech at a rally of opposition party members was broadcasted by several local media outlets, including Naya Daur TV here and Capital TV here . Both videos show Zardari accurately describing which food items are sold in numbers and by weights. At the six-minute 20-second mark of the Naya Daur TV video, Zardari can be heard saying: The change is that eggs cost 200 rupees per dozen, potatoes 100 rupees per kilo, tomatoes 200 rupees per kilo, onions 80 rupees per kilo. Zadari is heard saying the same sentence in the Capital TV video at its seven-minute 57-second mark.
