One statement Pelosi made during that interview was singled out and condemned by partisan critics for calling China, whose many human rights violations have been catalogued by Amnesty International, one of the freest societies in the world. The statement was correctly attributed to her. However, as the context around it made perfectly clear, Pelosi intended to say, Taiwan is one of the freest societies in the world. She simply misspoke.
