I wish I were Marcos' child, the Tagalog-language caption reads. Aquino III’s father Benigno Aquino Jr. was a prominent political rival of Marcos who was assassinated in 1983 during the latter’s presidency. Aquino III's mother, Corazon Aquino, succeeded Marcos after the dictator was deposed in a people power uprising in 1986. A Google reverse image search found the original photo on a June 30, 2010 blog post . It documents Aquino III’s first 100 days in office. The 2010 photo is captioned: President Benigno Simeon Aquino III views the portrait of his late mother, former President Corazon C. Aquino upon his arrival at Malacanang Palace after being sworn in as the 15th President of the Republic of the Philippines Wednesday (June 30) at the Quirino Granstand (sic), Rizal Park in Manila. The portrait in the 2010 photo was digitally altered to insert a postcard showing Marcos, identical to the one seen in this page. Below is a screenshot comparison of the doctored photo (L) and the original photo (R): Screenshot comparison AFP photographer Rolex dela Pena captured the same moment from a slightly different angle. A screenshot of the photo on AFP Forum, taken on January 29, 2021 The misleading claim was also debunked by Philippine fact-checking initiative FactRakers . (en)
